Title 59th Foot (2nd Nottinghamshire Regiment) officer's waist belt clasp
Nationality British
Period c 1855-81
Sold

This is a nice example. These buckles were introduced in 1855 and were worn until the abolition of the regimental numbering system in 1881 when county titles replaced the numbers. They were worn on a white buff belt, or sometime white patent leather, with sword slings, by all infantry officers.

The condition is good, with most of the gilding remaining on the face of the plate and some rubbing to the highlights, especially on the floral supports either side of the main device.
