The guard of this fine sword (marked Carl Eickhorn in Arabic script at the forte) is pierced with the star and crescent, the emblem of the Ottoman Empire. Almanach de Gotha, 1912, gives the total cavalry strengths of the Turkish Army, including Kurdish levies, at about 40,000 horse, indicating this sword's rarity.

There is a matching unit mark at the bottom of the scabbard and on the forte of the blade by the maker's mark.

It has chequered cow horn grips, the shape reminiscent of the 1908 British cavalry sword, a very practical design. The hilt and scabbard have minor age patination, but have been carefully cleaned. The scabbard has several small dents on both sides down near the drag. The blade has been sharpened for field service and has much of its factory polish, while towards the forte there are spring marks from the internal spring.
