Title Belgian infantry officer's sword
Nationality Belgian
Period c 1910
Sold

This is modelled on the French infantry officer's sword, model 1882. However, the hilt is made of gilding metal, whereas the French examples have a nickel silver finish. The hilt is buffalo horn. The blade is nicely engraved and there is a German maker's mark at the forte.

The scabbard has a nickel silver finish with patches of corrosion here and there, but 85%+ still remains. The sword knot has had its leather strap replaced by a piece of modern nylon cord.

...acquiring this bayonet has completely changed my way of thinking on collecting bayonets. I have become extremely fond of the bayonet... Thanking you once again for the very professional way in which you handled the money [going to the wrong account] problem.
