This Prussian sword's simple design was introduced in the mid-19th century, originally with a slightly curved, pipe-backed blade in a leather and brass mounted scabbard for all Fusilier regiments and battalions of the Prussian army. The guard star marks it as being Garde Fusilier and the black painted scabbard dates it as being post-1905. It could conceivably be a WW1 production and the blade (75 cm) is marked for WKC of Solingen. The scabbard has virtually all its original black paint with a few scars scattered throughout. It has a fishskin grip, complete with all its original silver wire, and the enamel on the guard star appears to be intact. Similar hilts can be seen in the WKC catalogue of the era, described as a Fusilier sword. |
