Title Iron prick spur
Nationality European
Period 12th/13th century
Price £65.00

This type of spur would have been worn in the Crusader armies in the early Middle Ages. They were really only superceded when the new style Gothic spurs appeared, with much longer shanks and the introduction of rowels in the 14th century.

This has had a hard life and both the strap fittings may well be modern replacements. It is a ground find and heavily corroded throughout (except for the strap fittings!), although the rust has been consolidated and is now a pleasing blackened finish throughout.

Just a short note to let you know that I have collected the Police fur cap this morning from the Post Office. I am really happy with it, and for sure I will give a thumbs-up to your service. This was the first item I ever bought from you, and I hope it will not be the last.
