This bayonet, marked 'US M8A1' on throat of scabbard and 'M8' on forte of blade, may have been made for some friendly foreign government on account of the leather belt strap. US belt straps are always, on this bayonet, made of webbing. One possibility is that this is a replacement strap, hence the price (a ?75 bayonet otherwise). Another possibility is that this is a South Korean piece, as they used copious amounts of US equipment, both in the Korean war of 1952-3 and later. There is no grenade ordnance stamp on the pommel. |
