This is the classic cavalry weapon of Hindu India, used by the Mahrattas in their perennial struggle with Islamic aggressors and later even against the British. It is an all-iron construction which has obviously seen substantial battlefield use, to whit the brazing repairs on the main flanges. It measures 92cm long and has been carefully hand cleaned. The Muslim maces, by comparison, are usually half this size and of somewhat heavier construction, more akin to a West European cavalry mace. |
