In 1902, this unit was formed from veterans of the South African war and, in 1908, was redesignated the North Irish Horse and the badge altered accordingly. It would appear that they had four squadrons or less, as when the North Irish Horse was formed it started with four squadrons. It is in excellent condition. The badge is made of white metal with copper lugs on the reverse. The later badge (of the North Irish Horse) was a smaller strike in gilding metal.
