Title Pioneer pattern dress bayonet, engraved blade
Nationality German
Period c 1936
Sold

This bayonet is fully engraved on one side for the Third Regiment of German Infantry based at Mohrungen in East Prussia and is maker marked for Holler of Solingen. The Pioneer bayonet is the rarest of the dress pattern bayonets and one rarely finds a regimentally marked example.

The scabbard paint has been refurbished to a professional standard without using undercoat, just as the originals were painted. The nickel silver finish of the hilt is showing its age. The blade, however, is in excellent shape with nice clear, deeply etched engraving.

Sword arrived today. Fabulous. This is an excellent example of a fighting sword of its period, and a real gem. The 1828 Pattern is such a gorgeous sword, and this is a fine example. Even my bride is impressed and she doesn’t really get swords.
