Title Schaumburg-Lippe officer's sword knot
Nationality German
Period c 1880
Sold

This is one of the rarest of the Imperial German sword knots, Lippe being a tiny state which, in 1900, only had some 50,000 people. The present prince still lives in his castle in Detmold, much loved by his people, but no longer with any political clout. These knots were probably worn right up until 1919, when the republic was proclaimed.

The condition is very good indeed, with some minor tarnishing to the silver bullion. The red, white and blue silk thread is in excellent shape throughout.

I am wholly delighted with the shako plate. [It] is a wee cracker. It is a real pleasure to have something combining both condition and quality in equal parts, and I simply could not be more pleased.
