Title US light cavalry sabre, model 1860
Nationality American
Period 1864
(This item is subject to special postage, click here for more information.)

This classic Union cavalry sabre, with nearly 100% of its original polish to the blade, is marked 'ROBY//W.SHELMSFORD//MASS' at the forte), Roby being the most desirable of the Union makers (the Aimes swords have recently been reproduced in India). On the other side of the forte it is marked 'US 1864 A.G.M.'

The blade is superb and there is a brazing seam which runs the whole length of the scabbard, although the screw on the back of the scabbard is missing. The hilt is lightly patinated with traces of old lacquer, which I have deliberately left in place.

In 35 years of dealing, I have never come across one of these with all the factory polish on the blade.

Many thanks for sending the Troddels to me. I was very pleased that they were in the fine condition that you described.
