Title Croix de Guerre with bronze star, 1914-16
Nationality French
Period 1916
Sold

This award was instituted in April 1915, some two million being awarded to the French Army up to 1920. Many thousands were also awarded to Allied troops. The bronze star denotes Brigade or Battalion mention in despatches.

It ranks just below the Medaille Militaire and was automatically awarded to recipients of the Legion d'Honneur and the Medaille Militaire (combat awards only).

The ribbon is original, if a bit faded. The bronze cross has a dark age patina.

I have in the last six months inherited my late father Alan Swain's police memorabilia collection along with much paperwork receipts etc. I would like to pass on to you my thanks for such good dealership with my father going back to the late 80s and well into the 1990s.
