This award was instituted in April 1915, some two million being awarded to the French Army up to 1920. Many thousands were also awarded to Allied troops. The bronze star denotes Brigade or Battalion mention in despatches. It ranks just below the Medaille Militaire and was automatically awarded to recipients of the Legion d'Honneur and the Medaille Militaire (combat awards only). The ribbon is original, if a bit faded. The bronze cross has a dark age patina. |
