This rare bayonet was issued to the German troops in SW Africa and is regimentally marked with matching numbers both on the scabbard and the hilt, which is unusual. The blade has much of its original factory finish and was made at the Erfurt arsenal, dated 1911 at the forte, with all the original government inspection stamps throughout. The scabbard has much of its original blue finish mixed in with some medium age patination. The reverse leather grip is fine; however, the obverse one is slightly damaged at the guard and the face of the leather is quite badly worn. However, this is common on African bayonets as leather simply did not stand up to the climate. |
