Title Luftwaffe dirk by Puma, 1935 model
Nationality German
Period c 1937-1940
Sold

This was based on the DLV officer's dirk, which had a noticeably longer blade. It could originally be worn by all flight crew, but, after 1937, only by officers, unless it was a presentation piece. It was replaced by the 1937 pattern, and is thus a fairly rare item, especially if in good shape.

The 31 cm blade is marked 'Puma, Solingen' and has all its original EPNS finish. There are a few miniscule nicks in the leading edge. The fittings are polished aluminium, with a few minor corrosion stains scattered around the pommel and crossguard. One pommel swastika is brass, the other tombak, with traces of EPNS finish, suggesting that all the hilt motifs may have been silver plated originally. The blue leather of the grip and scabbard is in good shape, the latter having a few small cuts above the chape. The original blue leather throat washer is present.
