Title Military prismatic compass, WW1
Nationality British
Period 1916
Sold

This is a standard Great War issue item, of the dry rather than the oil-filled type. It has a broad arrow mark on the base, indicating government issue, with the date 1916, together with the maker's mark 'Cruchon & Emons // London'. It is marked on its face 'Verner's pattern VII'.

It is in perfect working order and only lacks its leather case. Made of brass which originally had a blackened finish on the case lid (for war service) and a polished varnished finish to the exterior on the edge. The blackened finish is now worn with age and wear on the outside. The varnish on the rim has gone and the brass has acquired a slightly patinated look. This could easily be polished, but I have left it be.

Every officer and sergeant in WW1 would have carried one of these.

I received the Norwegian Krag bayonet and it is more than I expected. Absolutely beautiful condition. Thank you very much.

Sword arrived today. Fabulous. This is an excellent example of a fighting sword of its period, and a real gem. The 1828 Pattern is such a gorgeous sword, and this is a fine example. Even my bride is impressed and she doesn’t really get swords.
