This little bayonet saw service in the Malayan emergency in the 1950s. Although it was designed at the tail end of WW2, they never actually saw service in that war. The No 5 Jungle Carbine was a much lightened version of the No 4 Enfield rifle, but had a very nasty recoil, as the cartridges were standard 303 and the weapon was half-stocked. The blade is in nice shape, with most of its original bluing. The grips, however, have seen substantial service, with a little bruising and oil staining on the obverse face. It has old black paint on the scabbard, which looks like it might have been redone a couple of times. The locking stud is in good order. The metal parts of the hilt have their original blue finish. |
