A commemorative ring for an Iron Cross winner or possibly his wife; whether it commemorates the Iron Cross 1st or 2nd Class is a moot point. There is a small 'W' in the centre, a Prussian crown above and four little slashes, emblematic of the date 1914 found on the originals. It is made of 800 silver and marked as such behind the device. The cross itself is in vitreous enamel, but this has considerable wear as the ring has obviously been worn through someone's lifetime. However, it is still a handsome piece and emblematic of the period. There appears to be no other damage, other than general wear to the highlights of the design. |
