Title 1933 pattern SS man's dagger with vertical frog
Nationality German
Period c 1933-39
Sold

This is a Robert Klaas example. It has an SS/RZM marked leather vertical frog, the clip of which is also RZM/maker marked. It is marked '1' on the crossguard for the Munich area (SS Inspection Bureau). These daggers were initially issued as an honour to worthy recipients and could later also be purchased. An increasingly rare dagger.

The blade has some of its original polish at the forte, but the bulk of the finish has been lost and replaced by a very lightly mottled look. The scabbard has been refinished at some point with modern gun blue, having been somewhat inexepertly cleaned. The grip is made of beechwood, the stain having worn off somewhat over the years. The fittings are the early pattern of solid white metal, both on the scabbard and the hilt.

The dagger is 100% original, other than the scabbard refinish and the slight greying of the blade.

[From a vendor, rather than a buyer]

I'm delighted that you are happy with the badge and I hope you can sell it to someone who will value owning it.

I tried to sell it on eBay but they won't accept Nazi items. I then contacted several dealers via a Google search who mostly offered me £40-£50 after some haggling. Most of the other dealers tried to conceal its true value in their replies and also lacked manners which doesn't inspire confidence.

Ultimately it's about trust. I should think that most prospective sellers have done their own research and therefore know roughly what their item is worth. You were the only dealer who had the integrity to concede that my valuation was approximately correct and I respect your comment that you can't offer this as you need to make a profit. Your honest approach is greatly appreciated and I felt comfortable taking the risk in sending it to you.

Thank you for a smooth transaction
