Title 1st Volunteer Battalion Essex Regiment helmet plate
Nationality British
Period c 1881-1908
Sold

This is an unusual Volunteer Rifle regiment helmet plate with a blackened finish in the format of the standard 1881 pattern helmet star, rather than the more usual Maltese cross normally associated with Rifle units. The 1st VB Essex was based at Romford. The base metal of the piece would appear to be gilding metal.

The condition is generally excellent for its age and this is one of the first blackened examples I have come across for a number of years.

Today I received your flag. It's very nice and looks genuine to me. Beautifull crisp colors! It looks barely used. It's a nice addition to my ww2 collection. I would even say, one of my top pieces.

Thanks for your excellent service and top communication!

I will check your site more often to see if you have more nice pieces.

Hanger arrived safe and sound 11.30ish today. Very pleased, it's as expected. Your excellent pics make all the difference in terms of confident buying over the net. As a matter of interest, the frog, which as you said is very a/f, is, as you thought, 'spot on'. On closer inspection it is a mk.1 Naval Frog, designated 'for cutlasses'. Date seems around 1860ish give or take.

By the way, I think your site is very user friendly. Seems to work much better than many and up to date, a rarity!!!
