This fine pin (2.4cm long) commemorates the Olympic Games of 1936. It shows an epee and a sabre on a shield, together with the fasces, the whole surmounted by a knight's helmet with the Italian colours in plumes behind. It is maker marked on the reverse 'Gerosa Milano'. I think this is a base metal, probably copper, piece, with a heavy silver-plate finish, together with vitreous enamel. There is some minor crackelure at the base of the fasces; otherwise, the piece is in excellent shape for its age. |
