Nice example, with staghorn grips, of early wartime variety, maker marked 'Robert Klaas, Solingen'. Brass mounted hilt with copper plated iron scabbard mounts, with tiny traces of former gilding. The bottom mount staple is somewhat loose, but certainly original. The blade is in excellent condition, engraved with traditional hunting motifs. This type of weapon was worn by junior forestry officials, both in the state and private sector during the Third Reich. The use of iron on the scabbard mounts suggests an early wartime date as brass was needed for more urgent purposes, eg cartridge cases. Nice black leather scabbard. |
