Title Headdress insignia
Nationality Unknown
Period c 1860
Price £60.00

This could be a US piece for the Union kepi or the Hardee hat, which was a black felt slouch hat with a turned up brim. Alternatively it could be for some colonial Dutch or Boer unit. It is head insignia because of the two pairs of holes punched for stitching attachment at either end of one of the canons and the brass prongs sweated on at the back.

It is a die-struck gilding metal badge (cascabel to muzzle 6.5cm). It is a little crumpled with age, but generally, apart from this, in good shape.

Prov: from the J.R. Gaunt & Son Ltd. Pattern Book Archive, sold at auction by order of the National Army Museum, London.

testimonials

Just to let you know that the bayonets arrived safely this morning and I am extremely happy! They are everything that I had hoped they would be, but better! I am extremely pleased that i purchased them from you. The 1867 Albini ... is an absolute beauty, the blade is immaculate. The other is in fact in far better condition that I had imagined as well. So all in all, I couldn't be happier! Many thanks Chris.

I very much look forward to doing business with you again in the near future.
