This may be merely a commemorative buttonhole for the first two years of the war, but the central position of the number 19 on a red ground within a white cross and the colour of the wreath in white metal suggests that this might be Archduke Franz Ferdinand's regiment number 19, a Hungarian regiment based on Gyor. It measures 2.2cm across and is made of base metal with a silver finish to the wreath and a bronze finish to the date numbers. Its condition is excellent for its age, with some imperfections to the enamel which do not appear to be damage, but rather something that was in the making of the piece, especially noticeable on the white arms of the cross. |
