This badge commemorates the land management section of the 2nd Army. They were responsible for bringing in the harvest, among other things, hence the device of a scythe in the badge. It was commanded by Lt Col von Csiki. An unusual badge, but clearly every army corps in the old imperial army had units of this nature. Typically these badges were sold to raise money for the widows and orphans of the relevant units and were normally worn on the left-hand side of the Austrian field cap. Sometimes as many as six were worn all together. This badge is made of die-struck copper with a brass pin on a hinge and is in excellent condition, with a nice dark patination and a little rubbing to the highlights. |
