Title Royal Engineers horseshoe sweetheart brooch, George VI
Nationality British
Period c 1945
Price £5.00

The Royal Engineers were responsible for bridge/road building, mine fields, their laying and clearance, etc. These brooches would have been worn by women on their handbags and lapels to commemorate the service of their men in the field, a tradition which started in the Boer War.

Measuring 2.5cm across, it is of two-piece construction, made from gilding metal and enamel. It is in excellent condition, with some wear to the gilding.

The day the blunderbuss arrives I could not stop looking and feeling the gun for at least one hour. My wife told me that I was sick........ I am very happy, it is a piece of craftsmanship! Well made! I have 5 blunderbusses but all iron barrel, also from England but this one is gorgeous with the Brass Barrel.

Please keep me informed when you have any other type of blunderbuss. Thanks my friend!

You worked your magic again. The knife arrived this afternoon without any problem. [My husband] is quite delighted with it.
