Title SS other ranks 1933 pattern dagger
Nationality German
Period 1939
Sold

This fine dagger is RZM coded number 37 (Robert Klass of Solingen) and dated 1939. This type was worn widely by all ranks within the SS and was only partially superceded by the 1936 pattern chain dagger. The later RZM daggers typically have a black paint scabbard finish as opposed to a blue finish.

The paintwork is excellent, with the odd little patch where it is rubbed to bare metal and some minor spider rust here and there. The blade has all its original factory polish. The hilt eagle is aluminium, as one would expect on a late pattern dagger. The grip would appear to be stained beechwood/fruitwood of some sort, again typical of the later daggers. The hilt mounts would appear to be aluminium alloy with 95%+ of their nickel silver finish intact. The scabbard mounts are nickel silver on steel and these are mint.

[From a vendor, rather than a buyer]

I'm delighted that you are happy with the badge and I hope you can sell it to someone who will value owning it.

I tried to sell it on eBay but they won't accept Nazi items. I then contacted several dealers via a Google search who mostly offered me £40-£50 after some haggling. Most of the other dealers tried to conceal its true value in their replies and also lacked manners which doesn't inspire confidence.

Ultimately it's about trust. I should think that most prospective sellers have done their own research and therefore know roughly what their item is worth. You were the only dealer who had the integrity to concede that my valuation was approximately correct and I respect your comment that you can't offer this as you need to make a profit. Your honest approach is greatly appreciated and I felt comfortable taking the risk in sending it to you.

Thank you for a smooth transaction
