Title Army Temperance medal
Nationality British Empire
Period c 1897

This was an award from the Army Temperance Association to the European ORs in India for having kept a clean slate regarding alcohol abuse over a number of years. Drunkeness was a perennial problem for the army in India. Lord Roberts introduced the 'coffee shop' concept in the cantonments to help stem this plague.

It weighs 21gm, is struck in .925 sterling silver, but not hallmarked. It is in VF condition.

Found the item a little on the expensive side and a bit disappointed that you were unwilling to bend a bit on the price of the Officer's Tunic Eagle (half the fun of buying, after all, is the haggling), but impressed by the speed of delivery and the quality of the item. Was well worth it in the long run...
