Title Bronze medal for the liberation of Upper Hungary
Nationality Hungarian
Period 1938
Sold

Awarded in silver and bronze to all troops who took part in this peaceful operation, it celebrated the carve-up of the rump of Czechoslovakia in 1938 by Hitler and Mussolini. The image is of Francis II Rakoczi (1676-1735), who led a Hungarian revolt against Habsburg rule 1703-11. He was born at Borsa in present day Slovakia, a suitable local hero!

The medal is die struck in bronze. The condition is GVF, with a little corrosion to the reverse.
